“Wildlights” at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

The following is a list of Christmas events at Ohio parks, zoos, and historical villages. Some of the events start in November, so don’t wait till Christmas to make your plans. Please see the links below for additional details and fees.

Central Ohio

Columbus Zoo & Aquarium Wildlights 25 Nov 22, 2013 – Jan 5, 2014 See link for hours Zoo lit by over 3 million festive LED lights. Holiday displays, music, carolers, refreshments, Santa and his reindeer. We went last year; if you like you can check out our photos.
Dawes Arboretum Luminary Tour & Poinsettia Sale Dec. 6, 2013 5:30-8PM Tour features 1,500 luminaries, poinsettia sales, hot cocoa, treats & family activities. Dawes Arboretum is also collecting for the Food Pantry Network of Licking County at this event.
Slate Run Metropark Christmas is Coming 1 – 3 pm on Dec 7, 2013 Help decorate the farmhouse in Victorian fashion. Make an ornament to take home.
Ohio Village (OHS) Dickens of a Christmas Dec 13,14,20,21,22, 2013 A Victorian Christmas in a 19th century village
Ohio Village (OHS) Dickens Dinners 6 to 7:30 pm on Dec 13,14,20,21 2013 Advanced reservation required, (800) 686-1541. $60 (OHS members pay $50); price includes staying on for Dickens of a Christmas
Ohio Village (OHS), American House Hotel Christmas Buffet 11 am and 2 pm on Dec 22, 2013 Advanced reservation required, (800) 686-1541. $44 for adults, $21.95 for children aged 6 to 12 (OHS members pay $35 for adults, $18.95 for children); price includes touring the Village’s Dickens festivities.

Hayes Presidential Center, Fremont Hayes Train Special Nov 29, 2013 through Jan 5, 2014, Tues through Sat. 9 am – 5 pm; Sundays noon – 5 pm Holiday model trains travelling through a picturesque miniature Victorian village on a three-tier layout.$7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors 60 and over; $3 for children aged 6-12; free for 5 and under. Hayes Presidential Center, Fremont Horse-drawn sleigh rides in Spiegel Grove Dec 26-29 & 31, 2013 Nostalgic horse-drawn sleigh tours. Sleigh rides cost $3 for all ages; admission to the Hayes Home or Hayes Museum is a separate charge. (419) 332-2081.

Clifton Mill (Clifton, Ohio) Legendary Lights at the Clifton Mill Nov 28, 2013 – Jan 1, 2014 See link for hours 3.5 million lights at restored water-powered grist mill on Little Miami River.
Sharon Woods Park in Hamilton County Holiday in Lights Nov 22, 2013 – Dec 31, 2013 This is a drive-through display; besides decorated trees, there are more than 120 animated and still figures. The event takes place in the Sharon Woods park of Hamilton County; $13 is charged per car. There is a $2-off coupon at the event’s website.

The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway runs an annual Santa Train – a holiday themed train trip featuring Santa and starting in Nelsonville, OH. Additional holiday events around the state can be found here.
