Lake County Parks & Nature Preserves

The following list of parks and preserves includes those managed by federal, state, county, and non-governmental agencies (such as the National Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, various historical societies, etc.).

  • Miscellaneous info: There is a ski lodge on site; call 440-954-4178 for ski conditions. There are also nature trails through mature woods. Although there are ledges made of Sharon conglomerate, people can only approach the ledges when on scheduled, guided tours. The Lucky Stone Loop Trail has one of the most scenic overlooks in Lake County. On a clear day you can see Lake Erie and Cleveland which is 18 miles away. It faces west; it could be a nice place to watch the sunset.

  • Miscellaneous info: If you are only interested in seeing Chair Factory Falls, the closest parking is at the Old Stone School at 7125 Ravenna Rd.; from there walk to the paved bike path and turn left. Proceed 0.2 miles to the Chair Factory Falls trailhead. From there it is another 0.3 miles to the fall. There is a steep hill on the way.

  • Miscellaneous info: A bluff-top forest overlooks the Chagrin River. The preserve also features hemlock-lined ravines. It is a bird sanctuary, and it is home to some unusual plants: trailing arbutus, pink moccasin flower and red trillium. Good site for viewing spring wildflowers.

I am trying to find a park system or area in portage county that will allow me to release skunks from my neighborhood.We have an increasing number of skunks that I would like to help by letting them go back into an ecosystem where they can flourish naturally.I am live trapping them and wish info on releasiung them into the wild.I am not getting any info online and the park people don`t seem to want to help me.They are hands off type of individuals.
