Mahoning County Parks & Nature Preserves

The following list of parks and preserves includes those managed by federal, state, county, and non-governmental agencies (such as the National Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, various historical societies, etc.).

We have tried to collect information on the activities and facilities available at various parks, but things may change without us knowing about it. So please double-check the information at the official site (click on the park’s name to go there).


Berlin Lake Wildlife Area (State Wildlife Area)

Hitchcock Woods (Metro Park Preservation Area)
  • Location: Located in the Mill Creek corridor south of Boardman-Canfield Road (Route 224) in Boardman Township.
  • Park size: 982 acres
  • No restrooms are provided.
  • The trails are described as primitive and no mileage information is provided. There is no on-site parking.
Kyle Woods (State Nature Preserve)
  • 6920 Tippecanoe Rd., Canfield, Ohio 44406

  • Park size: 82 acres
  • Total trail length: 0.75 miles
  • Good site for bird watching
Lake Milton (State Park)

McGuffey Wildlife Preserve (Metro Park Preservation Area)

  • Trail mileage is unavailable. There is parking off McGuffey Road.

MetroParks Bikeway (Bike Path)
  • 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Rd., Canfield, OH 44406

  • The address given is for the Metro Parks Farm where you can park to access the trail. Check the official site or trail map for other access points. The trail is a paved, asphalt trail suited to walking, cycling and skating.
MetroParks Farm Natural Areas (Metro Park Preservation Area)

  • Location: Access to the natural areas of the MetroParks Farm is from the MetroParks Bikeway trailhead parking area and trail spur.
  • Park size: 150 acres of the 400 acre farm is natural habitat with trails.

Mill Creek Preserve (Metro Park Preservation Area)
Vickers Nature Preserve (Metro Park Preservation Area)

  • Park size: 262 acres
  • Hiking is permitted throughout the site. Parking is available at the preserve. Restrooms are available at Buckeye Horse Park to the north of the preserve.

Yellow Creek Park (Metro Park)

  • Park size: 76 acres

  • When the creek level is low, you can access the historic, Hopewell Furnace within the park. Four trail of unspecified length are available.

  1. Are there any steps we can take to open up Evans lake? I know it is private and owned by aqua ohio, such a shame this resource is wasted.
