Crawford County Parks & Nature Preserves

The following list of parks and preserves includes those managed by federal, state, county, and non-governmental agencies (such as the National Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, various historical societies, etc.).

We have tried to collect information on the activities and facilities available at various parks, but things may change without us knowing about it. So please double-check the information at the official site (click on the park’s name to go there).

Carmean Woods (State Nature Preserve)
  • Location: 1 mile southwest of Bucyrus on State Rte 4, proceed 2 miles west on Mt.Zion Rd. Parking is available at the fire station (without blocking access).
  • Park size: 39 acres
  • Adjacent to Sears Woods
Colonel Crawford Bikeway (Bike Path)
  • Transits: See above link for driving directions and maps.
  • Trail map
  • Total trail length: 32 miles
Daughmer Bur Oak Prairie Savannah (State Nature Preserve)
  • Location: The preserve is located in southern Crawford County, eight miles southwest of Bucyrus, at the intersection of Scioto Chapel Road and Marion-Mercer Road.
  • Park size: 34 acres
Heckert Nature Preserve (County)
  • Location: Located on the south side of State Route 19, half-way between Bucyrus and Galion
  • Park size: 43 acres
  • Total trail length: 1.3 miles
  • Dog friendly
Lowe-Volk Park (County)
  • Location: The  park is located on State Route 598 three miles north of Galion.

  • Total trail length: 1.5 miles
  • Fishing (check the official site to see if there are any restrictions)
  • At least some parts are handicap accessible
  • Restrooms
  • Nature center
Outhwaite Reservoir Walking Path (County)
  • Total trail length: 2 miles
Sears Woods (State Nature Preserve)
  • Location: 1 mile southwest of Bucyrus on SR 4; proceed 2 miles west on Mt. Zion Road
  • Trail map
  • Park size: 99 acres
  • Total trail length: 1.25 miles
  • Good site for bird watching
  • No restrooms are provided.
  • Outstanding wildflowers in May
Unger Park (County)
  • Location: The park is located on Nevada Road about one mile west of the square in Bucyrus
  • Trail map
  • Park size: 53 acres
  • Dog friendly
  • Bridle trails
  • Fishing (check the official site to see if there are any restrictions)
  • Good site for bird watching
  • Cross country ski trails
  • No restrooms are provided.
  • Hiking trails
