Stark County Parks & Nature Preserves

The following list of parks and preserves includes those managed by federal, state, county, and non-governmental agencies (such as the National Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, various historical societies, etc.).

We have tried to collect information on the activities and facilities available at various parks, but things may change without us knowing about it. So please double-check the information at the official site (click on the park’s name to go there).


Beech Creek Botanical Garden & Nature Preserve (Botanical Garden / Nature Preserve)

Berlin Lake Wildlife Area (State Wildlife Area)

Congressman Ralph Regula Towpath Trail Park (Bike Path)
  • GPS coordinates: N40.654369,W81.485084
  • Transits: Follow Erie Ave or Rt. 21 through Canal Fulton, Massillon, and Navarre in Western Stark County. There is a list of addresses for all trailheads here.

  • Multi-use trail for walking and cycling. Some portions of the trail are shared with horseback riders. There is access to shore fishing. There is also a preserved portion of the Erie Canal in the Canal Fulton area where you can take boat rides on a replica of a tow boat.

Cook’s Lagoon (County Park)

  • This park features a dredged pond in which fishing is permitted.

David Fichtner Outdoor Education Center (County Park)

  • Location:
    • From I-77, take Rt.241/Rt. 619 (exit 118) and turn northeast onto Rt. 241 and east on Rt. 619 to Hartville. Turn north onto Market Avenue.
    • From Canton, take Rt. 43 North and turn left at the Y onto Market Ave. The park will be on the left after you cross Edison Street/Rt. 619.
    • From Alliance, take Rt. 619 west into Hartville. Turn right on Market Avenue and the park will be on the left.

Deer Creek Reservoir (County Park)

  • Location: (From I-77) take Rt. 62 east to Rt. 225 North and turn west onto Price St. The park entrance will be on your left.

  • This park is the trailhead for the Mahoning Valley Trail. About 1.4 miles of the trail in along the road. See the official site for fishing and hunting maps.

Devonshire Park (County Park)

    • From I-77 North take the Everhard Rd. (exit 109) west onto Everhard Rd. and turn southwest onto Everhard Rd. and turn west onto Fulton Dr. NW and head south on South Blvd.
    • From I-77 South take the Whipple Ave. (exit 109a) and continue straight onto Belden Village St. and turn southwest onto Everhard Rd. and turn west onto Fulton Dr. NW and head south on South Blvd.

  • The trail is a mowed path.

Frank Esmont Park (County Park)

Jackson Bog (State Nature Preserve)

  • Location: Located in Stark County, 2 miles north of Massillon on Fulton Drive and .5 mile west of the intersection of SR 687 and SR 241. The preserve is adjacent to Jackson Township Park.

Petros Lake Park (County Park)
  • 3275 Perry Dr. SW, Canton 44706

  • Location:
    • From I-77 south of Canton, take Exit 101. Go west on Faircrest Street. After passing the Timken Company, turn right onto Perry Drive. The park will be on the left.
    • From Rt. 30/Rt. 62, take the Richville Drive exit heading southeast. After crossing Navarre Road you will be on Faircrest Street. Turn left onto Perry Drive and the park will be on your left.
    • From West Tuscarawas Street or Lincoln Way East, turn south on Perry Drive and go 2 miles. The park will be on the right.

  • The park is primarily open grassland that is in the process of being converted into a prairie.

Quail Hollow (State Park)

Sippo Lake Park (County Park)

  • Location: From Rt. 21, take Lake Avenue east. At Wales Road, turn right. At Hankins Street, turn left, continuing east. Turn right at Perry Drive and right onto Tyner Street.

Walborn Reservoir (County Park)

  • There are trails exclusively dedicated to hikers, and other trails that serve as both hiking trails and bridle trails.

Whitacre Greer Park (County Park)

  • Location: From I-77 take the Cleveland Ave./Rt. 800 exit (Exit 103) Turn south onto Rt. 800 and east onto Rt. 183 to Magnolia and turn north on Main St. (following Rt. 183 signage) veer right. Turn south on Gerdanville Rd. The park will be on the left.

  • Total trail length: 6 miles
  • Bridle trails
  • These trails are for the exclusive use of horseback riders. In the future trails will be developed for hiking and cycling.
