Summit County Parks & Nature Preserves

The following list of parks and preserves includes those managed by federal, state, county, and non-governmental agencies (such as the National Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, various historical societies, etc.).

We have tried to collect information on the activities and facilities available at various parks, but things may change without us knowing about it. So please double-check the information at the official site (click on the park’s name to go there).




Akron Zoo (Zoo)

Bike and Hike Trail (Bike Path)

Cascade Valley/North (Metro Park)

  • Two moderate hiking trails. There is a connector trail to the Sand Run Metro Park. This is a rugged, steep-cut ravine within the city of Akron.

Cascade Valley/South (Metro Park)

Includes an observation deck that is 125 feet above the Cuyahoga River Valley. The trails range in difficulty from easy to strenous. Cross country skiing is allowed. There is a connector trail to the Gorge Metro Park.

Cuyahoga Valley (National Park)

Deep Lock Quarry (Metro Park)

F. A. Seiberling Nature Realm (Metro Park)

Firestone (Metro Park)

Furnace Run (Metro Park)

Goodyear Heights (Metro Park)

Hampton Hills (Metro Park)

Karlo Fen (State Nature Preserve)

Liberty Park (Metro Park)

  • Location: The trails are easy to moderate. About 100 acres have been reserved for recreational use (ball fields, etc.). Much of the remaining area has been left undeveloped for wildlife. This is an important area for birds.

Sand Run (Metro Park)

When you cross Revere Rd., you will enter the park. Sand Run Pkwy. is approx. 3 mi. long with various parking areas for trailheads, shelters and pavilions.

Tinker’s Creek (State Nature Preserve)

  • Location: Located southwest of Aurora. From the junction of SR 82 and 43, proceed south on SR 43 approximately 1 mile to Aurora–Hudson Rd. Follow Aurora–Hudson Rd 2 miles southwest, then 2 miles west on Old Mill Rd. The preserve is adjacent to the railroad tracks.
