Wyandot County Parks & Nature Preserves

The following list of parks and preserves includes those managed by federal, state, county, and non-governmental agencies (such as the National Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, various historical societies, etc.).

We have tried to collect information on the activities and facilities available at various parks, but things may change without us knowing about it. So please double-check the information at the official site (click on the park’s name to go there).


Indian Trail Caverns (Private Cavern)
  • 722 State Road 568, Carey, OH 43316
  • GPS coordinates: N40.9806627,W83.4454313
  • Guided tours are available for a fee. The caverns are open from 1 pm – 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day Weekend.
  • The oldest Native American artifacts for this regions have been found at this cavern. The cavern has been featured in a number of documentaries. In addition evidence has been found here of many animals who lived in the area prior to the last time glaciers covered northern Ohio.

Killdeer Plains (State Wildlife Area)
  • GPS coordinates: N40.714606, W83.299584
  • Location: Wyandot County Road 115 provides access from State Route 294, two miles west of Harpster, and from State Route 309, eight miles west of Marion. State Routes 67 and 294 border the area on the west and north.
  • Park size: 9,230 acres
  • Fishing (check the official site to see if there are any restrictions)
  • Hunting when in season with license. Please visit park web site for details.
  • Good site for bird watching
