May Wildflowers at Scioto Trail State Park

Since we were at Scioto Trail State Park mid-May, there were so many wildflowers along the trails that I thought they merited their own post. Here’s a look at some of the flowers that we saw, plus some of the living creatures that were near them.

Wildflowers
Ohio Spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiensis)

Fruit of Ohio Spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiensis)
Azure Bluet (Houstonia caerulea)

Violet Wood Sorrel (Oxalis illinoensis)

Fire Pink (Silene virginica)
Common milkweed (Heracleum maximum)
False Solomon’s Seal (Maianthemum racemosum)
Tulip tree blossom
Smooth Phlox (Phlox glaberrima)
Spore on the underside of a Christmas fern frond
Animal life

While looking for wildflowers, the following little creatures also caught my eye.

Orchard spider (Leucauge venusta)
Green on green — an assassin bug nymph
Toad in hiding
Zebra butterfly (when it was a larva, it ate pawpaw leaves that changed its chemistry in a way that protects it from predators).
Bee on eastern waterleaf blossom
Additional information

Bob’s post, Scioto Trail State Park, describes the trails, amenities, and location of this park.
