Noble County Parks & Nature Preserves

The following list of parks and preserves includes those managed by federal, state, county, and non-governmental agencies (such as the National Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, various historical societies, etc.).

We have tried to collect information on the activities and facilities available at various parks, but things may change without us knowing about it. So please double-check the information at the official site (click on the park’s name to go there).


Ales Run Wildlife Area (State Wildlife Area)

  • Park size: 2,905 acres
  • Hunting when in season with license. Please visit park web site for details.

B&N Coal Inc. Lands (State Wildlife Area)
  • Location: See above link for driving directions and maps.
  • Park size: 3,002 acres
  • Permit required
  • Fishing (check the official site to see if there are any restrictions)

ReCreation Land (AEP Public Recreation Area (NGO))
  • Location: Near intersection of I-70 & I-77 near Zanesville & Cambridge. See site for maps
  • Trail map
  • Park size: 60,000 acres
  • Total trail length: ~ 14 miles Buckeye Trail + mountain bike & equine trails
  • Permit required
  • Dog friendly
  • Bridle trails
  • Fishing (check the official site to see if there are any restrictions)
  • Good site for bird watching
  • Camp sites
  • Mountain bike trails
  • Restrooms
  • Buckeye trail, dog training area, picnic area, multiple camp sites, lakes, mountain bike & horse trails, stocked fishing lakes

The Wilds (Wild Animal Park)
  • 14000 International Road, Cumberland, OH 43732
  • Park size: 9,154 acres
  • Bridle trails
  • At least some parts are handicap accessible
  • Camp sites
  • Restrooms
  • Wild animal park w bus tours, yurt camping, restaurant / gift shop. Affiliated with Columbus Zoo.

  1. In reference to the web page at https://trekohio.com/noble/ , “B&N Coal Inc. Lands (State Wildlife Area)” is leased to hunters year round and is no longer public. It once was, but it wasn’t like a typical ONDR – Wildlife reservation. It was more like the AEP ReCreation Land where the private company still owned the land, but got some support from ODNR – Wildlife [like Game Wardens (law enforcement)].
