Pickaway County Parks & Nature Preserves

The following list of parks and preserves includes those managed by federal, state, county, and non-governmental agencies (such as the National Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, various historical societies, etc.).

We have tried to collect information on the activities and facilities available at various parks, but things may change without us knowing about it. So please doublecheck the information at the official site (click on the park’s name to go there).

AW Marion (State Park)
  • 7317 Warner Huffer Road, Circleville, OH
  • Park size: 309 acres
  • Total trail length: 6 miles
  • Dog friendly
  • Fishing (check the official site to see if there are any restrictions)
  • Camp sites
  • Restrooms (Latrines)
  • Swimming (no beach), boating
Calamus Swamp (Columbus Audubon Preserve)
  • Location: 1.5 miles west of Circleville. On SR 104 1/3 mi south of intersection w US 22
  • Park size: 19 acres
  • Particularly good site for bird watching
Deer Creek (State Park)
  • 20635 State Park Road 20, Mt. Sterling, OH 43143

  • Park size: 2,227 acres
  • Total trail length: 9 miles + 17 miles bridle trail
  • Dog friendly

  • Lodge, boating, swimming (1,700 ft. beach)
  • Lodge: Deer Creek Lodge & Conference Center
Deer Creek (State Wildlife Area)
  • Location: It can be reached from the east and west by U.S. Route 22 and State Route 56, and from the north and south by U.S. Route 62 and State Routes 3, 104, and 207.
  • Park size: 8,662 acres

  • Archery range
  • Firearms range
  • Hunting when in season with license. Please visit park web site for details.

Mackey Ford Wildlife Area (State Wildlife Area)
  • Park size: 200 acres
  • Fishing (check the official site to see if there are any restrictions)

Slate Run Living Historical Farm (Metro Park)
  • 1375 State Route 674 N., Canal Winchester, OH 43110

  • Total trail length: 11 miles
  • Operating 19th century style farm
Stage’s Pond (State Nature Preserve)
  • 4792 Hagerty Road, Ashville Ohio
  • Location: Located in Pickaway County 5 miles north of Circleville on U.S. Route 23; proceed 1.5 miles east on Hagerty Road to the preserve parking lot and trail system.
